ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION
CHRISTAKIS CHARALAMBOUS AND ANDREAS PRODROMOU
The athletic association “Christakis Charalambous and Andreas
Prodromou” was established in 1990. The small number of inhabitants
had been the most important obstacle to the establishment
of the association in the past.
The need of athletic exercise and recreation has lead to
the establishment of this independent association which was
named after the two heroes of the community: Christakis Charalambous
was a flight lieutenant during the Second World War and was
killed on 13 July 1944 when his aircraft was shot down in
north Italy. Andreas Prodromou was killed on 11 May 1964
by Turks terrorists while cultivating his property in the
villages Marki-Kotsiatis.
The association participates in the local football championship.
In 1994, the football team of the association manages to
go to the finals of the Cyprus Cup but despite the excellent
performance of its players, it loses the game.
The executive council of the association has started the
construction of a football field. The Archbishop of Cyprus
has donated the land and Cyprus Athletic Association has
provided financial aid as well as technical supervision for
the construction of the field. But the most determinative
factor was the contribution of all the inhabitants in many
ways.
In 1999 the football team stops its activity and begins
again in 2001. None of the football players is getting paid.
The colors of the team is black and white.
The goal of the council is the construction of a privately
owned building as well as the expansion of the activities
of the association in many more field events.
